Only a few days after narrowing his potential schools to two, Dominic Cheek (SG, 6’5″, 2009) has made the decision to play basketball at Villinova.
Cheek is a deep shooter who will likely be one of the premier shooters in college baskeball very soon, but he’ll have to work on being a consistent point producer in order to make a full impact at the college level. The concern with elite shooters like Cheek is that sometimes they can rely on their deep shot right away and never develop the other aspects of their game.
Cheek is also a big guard who was highly sought after by several elite programs.

Will Lance Stephenson end up at St. John’s? It would be a big recruiting win for them if he did, but it also points to the fact that a lot of schools just aren’t interested in the sideshow. St. John’s is ready for him, however, and is making sure they have a scholarship for him:
…Roberts indicated that if another recruit – presumably he meant city star Lance Stephenson of Lincoln High – chooses the Johnnies, something will happen to accommodate him.

Thought I’d pass along some of PittOaklandZoo’s thoughts on recent basketball recruit Talib Zanna’s commitment and Pitt Panther basketball:
The bright side […] is that Jamie Dixon got a 4th freshman commitment out of that class, 6’8″ center Talib Zanna out of Bishop McNamara HS in Forestville, MD. This is a guy with a lot of upside, another “sleeper” for Jamie Dixon. This is a good pickup, with the depth in the frontcourt we’ll have for 2009 (Gary McGhee, Dwight Miller, DeJuan Blair, Dante Taylor) we’ll have the flexibility to redshirt JJ Richardson and/or Zanna.

Talib Zanna (C, 6’9″, 2009) has committed to Pitt as his college of choice for his basketball career. He had also been linked to a few other schools, but it seemed like Pitt had the inside track. Here’s some video of him and George Mason commit Rashad Whack:
